You can start looking now to get an idea of what you like and what you don't like. Don't make a descision until the year before your wedding. Its always best to get it a year in advance. I got mine in march of this year and my dress won't be ready until 8 weeks before the wedding which is in june 2010 and that doesn't include alterations.
