I think the text as it is is the only way to make the strip funny. The strips with short captions and puns are funny, but the ones that make me laugh out loud are generally the ones where one of the characters is angrily ranting on and on about something. Aside from that, I think a lot of text like this makes the comic seem more intelligent. :]

Anyway, I love the strips about philosophy professors. I'm a bit of a philosophy nut myself, and a little self-deprecatory humor is good for anybody. :D

But what I mean to say is that the joke seems to be explained with the text. It might be just me, but personally I find jokes less fun when they are explained.
If the text is as clear as this one, a picture isn't even needed at all. But, imo, a picture is the main part of a Comic Strip.
